spotlight on 812 edgewater: we own it!

Eight years ago, Rocking the Boat took a bold step toward anchoring its place in the South Bronx by bringing all of its activities together in one location at 812 Edgewater Road.  The results were significant:  program space that is quadruple the size and far more functional, a direct connection between the boatshop and the waterfront, and a considerable increase in our capacity to serve the Hunts Point community.  One month ago, the organization ensured its institutional and programmatic future by buying the building.  We now have a permanent home!  A generous and long-standing Rocking the Boat donor financed the purchase on the condition that the organization creates and funds a $1 million endowment.  We are more than halfway there and look forward to achieving this additional milestone soon.  Please visit rockingtheboat.org/newhome to learn more.

“I have seen an incredible evolution in this organization since I joined the board. But this really gets me. What an incredible achievement. Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen.”

Dustin Goodwin, Board member since 2009, past Board President

"It’s sort of a paradox.  On the one hand, not that much has changed since the closing.  We didn’t have to pack up and move any tools or boats or computers…we didn’t get a shiny new set of keys…we didn’t send out any change of address cards.  On the other, it’s all different.  Now we know for sure that Rocking the Boat will always be right here in Hunts Point, proudly serving our South Bronx neighbors."

Adam Green, Founder and Executive Director
