Job Skills Biographies

Tiffany Barker, a 17 year old girl from Brooklyn, New York has been with Rocking the Boat for about two years. She describes Rocking the Boat as “ a really cool, fun, hot place where I can make a difference in some way.”

Haajar Carter 18, funny, helpful, creative and very smart. Residing in the Bronx. She has been in R.T.B for about 3 years now.
Haajar states ”R.T.B has made me more environmentally friendly, also it has given guidance in being independent.

Josue Garcia, who is 18 years old, has been with Rocking the Boat for almost 3 years. He is very outgoing and loves to work. Josue stated that in his years working for Rocking the Boat, he was able to sharpen not only his teamwork skills but his teaching skills as well. He also stated “the reason I attend Rocking the Boat is because it’s a fun job and keeps me out of trouble.”

William Haynes is an 18 year old teenager born and raised in the Bronx. He was first introduced to Rocking the Boat through his high
school about three years ago. William is considered one of the best rowers and demonstrates great leadership skills. He says, “RTB has
given me the chance to sharpen my teamwork skills while learning how to teach others.”

Stephanie Jaquez is part of the On water Job Skills program here at Rocking the
Boat. During her five semesters here she has developed tremendous leadership skills and utilizes them inside RTB quarters as well as outside
in her daily life. Born and raised in the Bronx she takes pride in helping her community become more ’green’.

Mertle John, a 17 year old student at rocking the boat, works her hardest to
do what she needs to do and learns as she goes along. Joining job skills
in the fall semester she improved and is still improving the skills that
she has learned. Her specialty being water monitoring.

Celina Medina: Creative, funny, and free-spirited are just a few words to describe Celina Medina. Residing in the South Bronx,
Seventeen year old Celina has been a member of the Rocking the Boat on- Water program for about two years. As an On- Water job
skills apprentice, Celina says “RTB provides me with the basic skills I need to pursue a career in the Environmental field. They
motivate me to achieve my dreams."

Victoria Sweden is bright, kind and strong. Being the only job skills apprentice residing in Queens, she shows everyone how self
directed she is by traveling to the Bronx daily. She is 17 and has been in R.T.B. for about a year and a half. Victoria Sweden says
“R.T.B. gives me the experience necessary to excel in the real world.”

Nia Terrelonge is a 17 years old Bronxite. She is a fun, intelligent, get to, go to young lady. Nia has been at Rocking the Boat for two years and is still at it as an apprentice. She says that Rocking the Boat has allowed her to discover her true passion and provide an outlet for her growing abilities. She also loves the social aspect of the program and knows that she has made friends for life.
