boatbuilding
The Summer Boatbuilding Program is based at the Philipsburg Manor living history museum, 30 minutes north of the Bronx. Students spend 3 days a week surrounded by trees, grass, sheep, oxen, and a mill situated on the Pocantico River, building a traditional boat from scratch. One day a week, students will learn about the Bronx River, go rowing, and receive swimming instruction. students in this program will: Step back in time, using traditional hand tools to build a wooden boat. Restore Philipsburg Manor buildings and grounds. Wear period clothing and take part in explaining the boatbuilding process and its historical context to the visiting public. Go on a 5 day mid-summer Boatbuilding rowing trip. hours:
9am-5pm (includes 1 hour lunch break).

on-water
The On-Water Program combines Maritime Skills and Environmental Restoration. Students will embark on half and full-day adventures exploring the waterways surrounding the Bronx. They will learn navigation techniques and act as caretakers, working to improve the ecological health of the Bronx waterways. students in this program will: Learn the skills of water safety, rowing, fishing and navigation using maps, compasses and row boats. Discover the natural environment of the Bronx and work to restore its habitats. Receive swimming instruction one day a week. Go on a 5 day mid-summer On-Water rowing trip. hours:
